Building & Facility Series :  MANAGING THE FACILITY SECURITY RISK-(FACILITY SECURITY RISK MANAGEMENT)

23rd May 2013 , UTM International Campus Kuala Lumpur

INTRODUCTION
The management of facility security is far more demanding than deploying security guards and installing CCTV cameras in the premises.
While we take cognizant oftoday's threats to the facility, we need to be convinced that the measures implemented therein are meaningful means to managing security risk.
Facility security risk management requires the appreciation of the systematic approach from establishing the security risk profile to the designing and evaluating the
effectiveness of the protection plan. Ultimately, the management of security risk for facility seeks optimum use of personnel, procedures, technology and appropriate
response to security incidents.

THE OBJECTIVE

Challenges to managing facility security

This topic discusses the norm of security management and to what extent the general
practices of current security operations / management are effective.

BENEFITS OF THIS PROGRAMME

Participants will gain a better understanding of the systematic approach to security
risk mitigation strategies to minimise the adverse impact of known or perceived
risks present in the protection of the facility.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Chief Security Officers, Security Manager, Property Manager, Building Manager,
Facility Manager and personnel involved in security risk management or security
operation of a facility or building/Office Building/Shopping Complex/Manufacturing/Banks/Hotel

COURSE OUTLINE

Identifying threats and assessing security risk

This topic allows participants to appreciate current / emerging threats and
understand the potential risk of the respective facility based on these threats.
Additionally, the topic will guide the assessment of facility's security risk so
that specific protection elements could be determined and translated into a plan.

Determining facility's risk tolerance and objective of the security

This topic allows participants to determine the security protection requirements by
setting the objectives that consider the characteristic of the facility, defined
threats and identification of critical assets.

Designing Risk Mitigation Plan

This topic facilitates the consideration of how best to combine all elements of security means and measures to achieve
the desired protection objective within the
constraints that facility may have.

This topic also discusses risk mitigation plan for typical facilities e.g.
commercial, industrial, hospitality and/or healthcare.

Analyzing the Design Plan

This topic examines the security protection system functions in detail to ensure
that they are effective in preventing an adversary from successful completion of a
malevolent action against a facility. The topic also encourages participants to
measure the effectiveness of the facility protection plan to meet the primary
objectives of deterring, detecting, delaying and denying an adversary.

Implementation of the Design Plan

This topic will introduce key points of successful implementation of the Design
Plan. So one is able to ensure the plan is effective and functional in everyday operations.
